Reconnu de longue date pour l’excellence des ses collaborations, Brain Damage fait aujourd’hui appel à l’un des vocalistes les plus magnétiques et envoûtants de la scène française.
Qu’on se le dise, consécutivement à une période de retrait, Sir Jean is back ! Un retour fracassant sous la forme d’un brûlot bienveillant, d’une ode à l’unité et au partage. Une voix inextinguible, incendiaire, charismatique et électrisante. Une aura qui soigne, apaise mais aussi galvanise, fédère.
Ici, une fois n’est pas coutume, Brain Damage ne brouille pas les pistes et distille un reggae dub précis et inspiré, taillé sur mesure pour accueillir les mélodies flamboyantes du Black Lion. Le charme opère, le message passe, immanquablement. La simplicité des mots dialogue avec leur profondeur, chaque note, chaque rythme, chaque son parait jouer son rôle, l’alchimie fonctionne et ensorcelle.
Très attendu, suite aux succès des fameux « Royal Salute » et « Do U remember ? » , réalisés en amont il y a plusieurs années, cet album ne décevra pas, tant il en est le prolongement, tout aussi sincère, frontal et solaire.

Attendue de longue date, suite aux succès des fameux « Royal Salute » et « Do U Remember ? », la rencontre entre ces deux artistes définitivement habités s’incarne enfin en live, à travers une réécriture sauvage et viscérale de leur répertoire. Sur scène, leur album n’est plus un produit fini, mais à nouveau une partition ouverte où la poésie fiévreuse de Sir Jean fusionne avec les mixes d’acier toujours imprévisibles de Brain Damage. Ordres et contre-ordres sont nerveusement assénés à des machines enfin redevenues esclaves, pour sculpter en temps réel un reggae-dub mutant. Les énergies sont communicatives, les mélodies envoûtantes, les slogans prophétiques. L’ensemble dégage indéniablement une force qui parait pourtant parfois ne tenir qu’à un fil, étiré, distordu, mais qui jamais ne se brise.
à propos de Brain Damage
Avec la réalisation de 17 albums et près de 900 concerts, Martin Nathan multiplie depuis 25 ans les propositions artistiques les plus aventureuses et diverses sous le nom de Brain Damage.
Considéré comme l’un des créateurs de la scène dub en France à la fin des années 90, il se présente rapidement comme une influence majeure pour toute une génération de musiciens. N’étant pas du genre à se reposer sur les modèles qu’il a lui-même fondés, il se renouvelle sans cesse au gré de ses multiples projets, enchaînant notamment des collaborations toujours plus prestigieuses avec des pointures comme High Tone (fr), Vibronics (uk), Horace Andy (Ja), Harrison Stafford (usa), Big Youth (Ja), Groundation (usa) ou plus récemment Mad Professor (uk) et l’artiste japonaise Emiko Ota.
Parallèlement à ses multiples productions, l’intensité de ses prestations scéniques lui confère une solide réputation internationale, et il est plus que rare de voir un artiste passer allègrement le cap des 25 ans de carrière avec tant de vitalité et une créativité intacte.
à propos de Sir Jean
Originaire d’un Dakar cosmopolite, Sir Jean a grandi au confluent de multiples cultures, forgeant très tôt son identité à travers le métissage et le plurilinguisme. Le reggae et sa philosophie viendront parachever cette construction plurielle, l’amenant naturellement à ses premières expériences musicales.
Son arrivée en France en 1991 sera déterminante. Il devient rapidement une figure de proue de la bouillonnante scène musicale lyonnaise avec notamment la création de l’inclassable groupe Meï Teï Shô, dont l’aventure exceptionnellement marquante durera 8 ans. Parallèlement, il prête son charisme à quelques unes des formations les plus novatrices de l’époque comme Zenzile ou Ez3kiel. Mais c’est avec Le Peuple de L’Herbe alors en pleine explosion qu’il attire l’attention d’un public encore plus large, notamment avec le hit « PH Theme ». Il rejoindra alors temporairement la formation lyonnaise effectuant des dizaines de lives incandescents à travers toute l’Europe. Il est alors considéré comme l’un des frontmen incontournables de la scène française. Avec Brain Damage en 2011 il marquera de son empreinte le milieu du Dub avec deux titres devenus cultes, « Royal Salute » puis « Do U Remember? ».
La suite du parcours se fait plus tourmentée, entre projets prometteurs malheureusement avortés et une situation personnelle qui le contraindra à prendre la distance nécessaire à sa reconstruction.
L’année 2026 sera donc celle de la renaissance, aux côtés de Brain Damage, sous la forme d’un retour à son style de prédilection, un reggae nerveux, poétique et militant. Une collaboration fracassante attendue depuis des années qui semble démontrer de façon implacable que Sir Jean n’a rien perdu de sa superbe.

Live, their album is no longer a finished product, but once again an open score where Sir Jean’s feverish poetry merges with Brain Damage’s ever-unpredictable steel mixes. Commands and counter-commands are nervously driven into machines finally brought back to heel, sculpting a mutant reggae-dub in real time. The energy is contagious, the melodies spellbinding, the slogans prophetic. The whole live set undeniably radiates a force that at times seems to hang by a thread, stretched, distorted, that yet never breaks.

About Sir Jean
Hailing from a cosmopolitan Dakar, Sir Jean grew up at the crossroads of multiple cultures, shaping his identity early on through cultural diversity and multilingualism. Reggae and its philosophy would complete this rich plural foundation, naturally guiding him toward his first musical ventures.
His arrival in France in 1991 proved to be a turning point. He quickly became one of the leading figures of Lyon’s vibrant music scene, most notably through the creation of the genre-defying band Meï Teï Shô, whose remarkable eight-year journey left a lasting mark. Meanwhile, he lent his unmistakable charisma to some of France’s most innovative acts, such as Zenzile and Ez3kiel. It was, however, his collaboration with Le Peuple de l’Herbe, then enjoying a meteoric rise, that brought him to the attention of an even wider audience, particularly through the iconic track « PH Theme« . He subsequently joined the Lyon-based band for a period, performing dozens of fiery live shows across Europe and establishing himself as one of the French live scene’s most essential frontmen. In 2011, alongside Brain Damage, he left an indelible mark on the Dub scene with two tracks that have since become cult classics: « Royal Salute » and « Do U Remember ».
The next chapter of his journey proved more turbulent, marked by promising projects that unfortunately fell through, alongside personal circumstances that led him to step away from the spotlight in order to rebuild himself.
2026 marks his grand rebirth. Reunited with Brain Damage, he returns to his signature style: a sharp, poetic and conscious reggae. This explosive, long-awaited collaboration is compelling proof that Sir Jean has lost none of his brilliance.
